Become a Disciple

A disciple is a person who follows a teacher, but unlike the normal teacher-student relationship, a disciple seeks to be like the teacher and to do what the teacher does.

It is no accident that you are researching how to become a disciple of Jesus Christ. As we live our lives, there are times when our life story intersects with God’s great story. This could be that moment for you.

God’s story is a love story. The Bible tells us that God loves us with everlasting love. Despite what you have done or failed to do in the past, God still loves you. In fact, He loves you so much that Jesus took on the penalty for all the wrong things you would do even before you did them. The proper name for the offensive things we do is sin.

The sacrifice Jesus made on the cross was sufficient to pay for all the sins of all people for all time. In addition to dying for our sins, he also defeated the last enemy of all people, which is death. He did this by coming back to life from the dead. We call this the resurrection, and it is celebrated each year at Easter.

So what now? If you are ready to become a Jesus follower, which we call being a disciple, the process is quite simple. Here are some Bible verses that you can read and think about.

Romans 3:23
For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.

John 3:16
For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.

1 John 1:9
But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.

Romans 10:9
If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Are you ready to make a life change and become a disciple of Jesus Christ?

  • The first step is to tell Jesus about your desire. You can simply tell him that you are sorry for all your sins.

  • Then you can thank him for forgiving all your sins.

  • Tell him you want to be his disciple and to follow his teaching.

  • Finally, it takes a step of faith to begin the journey of being a disciple.

    • The first step is to tell someone about your decision.

    • The next step is to truly believe that Jesus has forgiven you and that He is inviting you on a journey to being his disciple.

If you made this decision, we would love to hear from you.
